Environmental
Wellbeing

Environmental well-being considers whether our natural environment can sustainably support the activities that constitute healthy community life, such as air quality, fresh water, uncontaminated land, and control of pollution.

It includes topics such as:

  • Air quality
  • Composting services
  • Rubbish and recycling services
  • Water quality in our rivers and lakes
  • Protection of wetlands
  • Environmental education
  • Protection of biodiversity
  • Climate change mitigation & adaptation

Examples of what we do in these areas:

  • Support of the Hinds / Hekeao managed aquifer recharge project
  • Protection of the environment through kerbside recycling and the collection of waste
  • Ensuring the district’s land is used appropriately in accordance with the District Plan
